Mexican crime drama is a 'Killer'

Alejandra Barros to star in first show

MEXICO CITY -- Mexican television stars are lining up to appear in the gritty crime drama "Mujeres Asesinas" (Killer Women) being produced by veteran show runner Pedro Torres with the independent shingle Mediamates.

Film and TV thesp Alejandra Barros stars in the first show, bowing June 17 on Cablevision. She plays a housewife who slowly poisons her husband to get out of an unhappy marriage. A censored version will run later on Televisa's channel five.

The 13-part series is an adaptation of a highly acclaimed, same-titled series in Argentina based on a book by Marisa Grinstein. The episodes are true stories, and, in each case, the real life murderer was tried and convicted.
